A Game with a New Software Prize
Situation: Many people know about us. We have an excellent
reputation. Yet, with dozens of software titles, it's a
tough job keeping interested people informed about what
each title does.
We needed a method to let people know at least some of the
primary features of our most popular software. The method
should provide an incentive to learn about the software.
Solution: Make a quiz game related to software features,
with a nice prize for those who get the answers right.
The questions ask which software has certain features. The
correct answers name the software titles with those features.
Links to the software description pages are provided for
those unfamiliar with the listed titles.
The Prize: Grab-n-Code
Grab-n-Code is easy image upload software which also
generates copy 'n paste code to put the image into
your blog or article. The software is a new release.

How We Did It
First, we made the prize.
I've long wanted an easy way to upload images and insert
them into blog posts. Because I was so busy, I kept putting
it off.
Recently, a client needed an easy way to upload images to
insert into a database. While building that, I grabbed the
opportunity to quickly create the software I've wanted.
Grab-n-Code was born. It is very focused: Upload an image
and generate copy 'n paste code for blogs or articles.
Second, we made the quiz game.
The reliable Master Quiz is
used to automate the quiz game.
Master Quiz generates the HTML for the quiz from questions
and answers provided on the control panel. It also does
the scoring and other duties associated with quiz
administration. It's handy software to have around.
Because downloading Grab-n-Code requires a transaction
number, JavaScript on the "you won" web page launches a
CGI program to generate the number and email it to the
quiz taker.
If transaction numbers were not required, the prize pickup
information could be in an email sent by Master Quiz or on
the "you won" page itself.
How You Can Win
You can win by answering 7 questions correctly. There is
also a bonus question.
