A Rating System Within Rotating Or Daily Content
You've seen rating and voting areas on web pages, where you
rate, as examples, a product or blog post.
This article shows how to incorporate a rating area within a
certain section of a web page that changes more or less
frequently. The rating area is integrated with the content
that changes, not to the static parts of the page.
Examples of Rating Frequently Changing Content
A web page has a product of the week corner. Visitors rate
the product currently being presented.
An inspiration text or verse changes every day. Visitors
rate how much the content helped or didn't help them.
A photo contest lets members rate their reaction to one
photo per day, not as compared to other photos in the
contest, but published by itself on the web page.
In contrast to a voting system, which is yes/no or a
selection from a group, a rating system measures degree
how much or how little.
The Rating and Content Updating Software
The rating system to use is Pro.Rate™.
Pro.Rate may be used in conjunction with any of the following:
-
On Time Delivery, for delivering certain content on
certain days.
-
Content Carousel, for rotating content.
-
Handy Spot Editor, for quickly changing a section of
a web page by using a simple form.
Incorporating Pro.Rate Into Frequently Changing Content
The process of incorporating Pro.Rate into changing content
is the same, regardless which of the three software titles
mentioned above are being used: Paste the Pro.Rate
JavaScript into the content where you want the rating area
to be published.
The first thing to do is sign up and get the JavaScript.
Then, paste the JavaScript wherever you want to publish a
rating area.
A Pro.Rate rating system can be implemented in 3 easy steps:
|
|
|
|
Step 1. Sign up.
Go to the Pro.Rate rating service description page
and click on the "Sign Up for Pro.Rate" link.
You can have it free or pay for it, your choice.
Once signed up, you'll be in the Pro.Rate control
panel.
Step 2. Copy the code.
In the Pro.Rate control panel, click on the "Get
JavaScript" link.
On the next page, you'll see several choices about
what type of page the rating functionality will be
presented on. Click on the second one, "ID to be
assigned manually one or more rating areas per
page."
(Other choices are available, for automatic ID
assignment and for certain blogging software. To put
the rating area into frequently changing content,
use the "ID to be assigned manually..." selection.)
When you click on one of the selections, a text box
with JavaScript in it will appear on the control
panel page.
Copy that JavaScript.
Step 3. Paste the code into your web page.
Paste the JavaScript you copied in the previous step
into your content at the place where you want the
rating area to be published.
On Time Delivery, Content Carousel, and Handy Spot Editor, each have a place where you type of paste the
content to be published. That is where to paste the
JavaScript.
In the JavaScript code, replace the word "UniqueID"
(within the 4th line from the top, 3rd line from the
bottom) with a unique sequence of characters to
identify that which is being rated.
The UniqueID needs to be unique for each content
you're publishing. It is the UniqueID that keeps
track of which rating applies to which content.
When assigning an ID, keep in mind that any
double-quote characters within the ID itself must
be escaped with a backslash character. Example:
The \"Flower\" Product
Now, update your web page. The content contains the
Pro.Rate rating system.
|
Once you have the Pro.Rate JavaScript, it can be pasted into
changing content.
Different JavaScript for automatic ID assignment and for
certain blogging software can be obtained from the Pro.Rate
control panel. You only need to sign up once.
Pro.Rate imposes no limits on the number of rating areas you
may have.
