A Hacker Alert System
When a server is hacked, one or more files are changed, added, or deleted. Files Monitor, the Server Hacking Alert System, detects those kinds of changes.
It might be the .htaccess file (to steal search engine traffic, as an example). It might be a WordPress file (to infect your visitor's computer or to redirect your site visitor to their own site, as additional examples).
Or it might be different files for different hacker reasons. Seems they're forever coming up with new ways to subvert people's hard work.
Files Monitor does what it's name implies. It monitors the files on your server and sends you an email alert if any of the files' size or content changes. It also alerts when it finds newly added files and when it finds files missing.
The software was built in response to people's WordPress installations getting hacked. Yet it monitors non-WordPress files just as well.
The thing is, Files Monitor needs to be installed and initialized before the server is hacked — the software won't detect file changes that happened before it's installed. After the software is installed, it needs to be scheduled to run a scan every day or more often.
Only in that way does the software have the means to detect file changes and send you an alert email.
Individual files and entire directories can be specified for monitoring. All of the domain's document directories, if desired. Generally, often-updated files and directories would be omitted, like tracking logs and cache directories.
When the database is initialized, files sizes and a computed file content signature are stored in the initialized database. The data is used for comparisons during later scanning.

As the software does its scanning, the file size or the file content signature in the initialized database is compared with the current version of the file. (Even changing one character, such as changing an "a" to an "A", will be seen as a difference when comparing file content.)
Installing Files Monitor on your server is a wise choice.
You have software on your office computer to detect viruses and trojans. (You do, right?) Put software on your server to detect changes made by hackers.
Files Monitor doesn't run in the background and slow things down like some anti-virus software will on office computers. Instead, it runs a scan only at certain times you specify — which may be pre-scheduled with cron.
An entire scan may be accomplished in seconds, but may take up to a minute or even longer for servers with thousands of files to monitor. The scan time depends on the server's resources and the files to monitor.
Files Monitor installs on your own server. No monthly fees required for this hacker alert system.
Previously, Files Monitor has been available for download only in the WebSite's Secret membership area. Because the software is newly upgraded and it's such important software, we're making it available to the public.
