Files Monitor Upgrade
Files Monitor, the server hacking alert system, has been upgraded.
If you've been using it (You have, right? We consider it essential.), you've probably wished for a way to omit certain directories or individual files from being scanned. They tend to clutter the email alerts Files Monitor sends.
Well, now with the new upgrade, it's possible. Often-changing files and directories, like tracking logs and cache directories can now be omitted from the scan.
No more such clutter. Anomalies are more likely to be noticed.
Other features also incorporated into version 2.0 are:
-
The initialization database now can be updated automatically when changed files are encountered. (Previously only added and deleted files could be updated automatically.)
Automatic updates remain optional.
-
The alert email now contains a one-click link to initialize the database with the new findings.
-
When email is sent with no changes detected (optional), the subject line contains "(no changes)" so you don't have to open the email to check. But you still know the software has run on schedule.
-
A log can be kept of all anomalies Files Monitor encounters during its scans.
The software now uses the MySQLi extension to ensure compatibility long into the future. (The previous mysql functions are being deprecated.) If unsure whether or not your server's PHP has the MySQLi extension available (most do), either ask the hosting company or use PHP Pre-Installation Tester to find out.

P.S. If you have friends and colleagues who could benefit by having Files Monitor working on their server (and they aren't WebSite's Secret members), let them know we're making purchase of Files Monitor available to the public.
