Form Field "Word/Character Limits"

Sometimes it is necessary to limit the amount of text that may be typed into a form field, either a type="text" or textarea form field.

HTML can be used to limit the number of characters for a type="text" field. But that's all. It can't be used to limit characters for a textarea field and it can not be used to limit words in either type of field.

However, JavaScript can be used.

The Form Field Word/Character Limits Code Generator will create the code to make type="text" or textarea form fields that limit number of words, number of characters, or both.

In addition, the following information may also be available for the form user:

• Number of words typed.

• Number of words remaining to reach the limit.

• Number of characters typed.

• Number of characters remaining to reach the limit.

Any combination or all of the above may be specified at the generation form for either a type="text" or textarea form field.
